How to Choose Shapewear for Dresses and Everyday Outfits

Good shapewear should work with your outfit and allow you to move comfortably. The goal may be a smoother line, light support or a more defined silhouette, but the correct piece depends on the garment worn over it.
Start with the outfit
For a fitted dress, look at where seams and edges will sit. Under fluid fabrics, a seamless finish may matter most. Under structured clothing, firmer panels can work well because the outer garment already holds its shape.
Choose the right coverage
High-waisted briefs focus on the waist and lower abdomen. Shaping bodysuits create a continuous line through the torso. Longer-leg styles can smooth the hip and thigh area, while lighter pieces offer targeted support without covering more than needed.
Select support you can wear
Higher compression is not always better. If a piece rolls, restricts breathing or changes your posture uncomfortably, try another size or a lighter support level. Shapewear should feel secure and stay in place through normal movement.
Check the bra line and neckline
Decide whether you want an integrated bust, an open-bust design or to wear your own bra. Match the neckline and back of the shapewear to the dress so that the support remains invisible.
Measure before choosing
Use your waist and hip measurements and compare the individual designer. Do not size down automatically: a smaller piece can create more visible edges rather than a smoother result. Start with the Size Guide.
Consider alternatives
A well-fitted bodysuit or corset may be the right foundation when you want structure that can also be part of the look. Browse Shop All to compare available constructions.
